Appetizers to celebrate, without allergies!
From the unexpected visit, a small victory to celebrate... (almost) Any reason is good for a festive aperitif!
People often have the reflex to prepare a platter of cold meats or cheeses to serve with the wine, but if we have people with allergies around the table, what do we do?
The classics
If we start with an easy answer, there are of course the famous raw vegetables. Don't run away just yet! 😂
We're not talking about small, limp broccoli on a plate. Let's get away from the usual vegetables! Dare to use chopped asparagus or fennel. Cut celeriac or cucumbers with cookie cutters. Use cherry tomatoes and peppers of different colors.
Be creative, add some color!
To accompany them, depending on your allergies or those of your guests, create a dip based on Greek yogurt or tofu. You could even go with guacamole and hummus (be careful with sesame here, it's better to make it at home).
Make small croutons with a gluten-free baguette , they will serve as a base for several condiments and spreads. Mouillette, candied onions, spreadable cheeses (vegan or lactose-free), or even simply a flavored olive oil or accompanied by a plate of dukkah-type spices.
The more substantial entries
Create mini skewers, it's always a hit with kids! (Figs and prosciutto, shrimp and mango, melon and ham, Asian chicken, meatballs... the options are there!)
For a slightly more chic aperitif, consider verrines. A small portion of salad, tartare, or ceviche helps to pass the time while waiting for the main meal.
Don't forget the condiments and side dishes
Add pickled onions, French pickles, olives and dried fruits to garnish your serving platter.
Serve everything on a nice serving board and you're done!
Allergies are not the enemy of the festivities!
It happens to everyone to hesitate when creating a meal with dietary limitations. We should not see this as an insurmountable obstacle but as a creative challenge that will surely allow us to discover new recipes or new products.
In addition, we have so many good products in Quebec, it's a great opportunity to discover new ones.
And Gabrielle's word, if you have questions about a product you were thinking of serving, if you are perplexed by a list of ingredients at the supermarket or if you want to be reassured about your menu choice, ask your questions directly to your guests!
Showing them that you take allergies seriously and their well-being to heart is valuable! They will be all the more excited and happy to be welcomed into your home!
