When we think of eating bread, we often think of a sandwich or a small toast with lentil cretons in the morning. We tend to forget that bread is also a base that is suitable for a variety of delicious dishes!
Breakfast, lunch and even dinner, a piece of bread can save your life when you lack inspiration and hunger sets in.
Here are 10 suggestions for bread-based dishes that are easy to adapt according to your allergies.
1. Vegan French toast without gluten, eggs or dairy!
A Sunday morning classic!
It was Gabrielle's dream to find THE French toast recipe that would satisfy her taste buds as much as the original recipe. This allergen-free French toast recipe is seriously satisfying... and it toasts right in the pan!
2. Croutons
Have you forgotten your bread for a little too long and it is starting to dry out? No problem! At the end of the week, make yourself a nice soup, a stew or a salad with your tired vegetables and accompany them with delicious gluten-free croutons!
Simply cut your bread into cubes and place on a baking sheet. Add a drizzle of olive oil, a little salt, herbs if you like, and bake for 20 minutes at 350ºF!
3. Poultry stuffing
You know why stuffing poultry is fantastic? Because the cooking juices will soak into the bread pieces, keeping all the flavor. We don't want to lose that!
Try our gluten-free and egg-free stuffing recipe, inspired by a recipe from Ricardo!
4. Gluten-free panzanella salad
Panzanella bread salad is very popular in central Italy, but we feel that it will soon be popular in Quebec, Montreal and even Rimouski!
It is made essentially from stale bread (which has lost its freshness and has started to dry out) and tomatoes. To this, you can add, according to your taste, thinly sliced onions, cucumber, basil, a good drizzle of olive oil and vinegar and a little salt.
Choose a fairly dense and firm bread, like a bâtard ! This is a fantastic salad for a beautiful summer day!
5. Vol-au-vent base
Forget vol-au-vent cups full of butter or palm oil! For a lactose-free and gluten-free version, use a slice of Le 96 Citron Confit bread, well toasted, to place your filling.
6. Hot chicken
A timeless classic to rediscover! Make an improved version with lightly toasted bread to prevent the bread from becoming too soft.
To get as close as possible to the original shape, use our gluten-free La Brique sandwich bread.
7. Bruschettas
Perfect for an aperitif! Just make small slices of baguette that you will bake in the oven for 10 minutes at 350ºF (keep a close eye on them!).
This strawberry bruschetta recipe from Gabrielle will be the new go-to starter for all your summer dinners!
8. Dairy-free garlic bread
Well. We won't reinvent the wheel here, but we couldn't do without it!
To replace traditional garlic butter for a lactose-free version, you can use duck fat (no less). Even better if it's made with our Le Bâtard bread!
9. As a pizza base
We know you're familiar with our pizza doughs . But let's say you forgot to add some to your order... Make a stress-free express pizza with a slice of bread!
Our burger buns are perfect for this exercise, just cut them in half!
10. Avocado toast
It's like an egg sandwich, without the eggs!
We often have an extra avocado that has gone soft on the counter. Simply mash the avocado flesh with a fork with a little olive or sunflower oil, add a little salt and a little hot sauce (if you feel like it!).
Place the mixture on a good slice of toasted bread (it would be delicious on multigrain bread) and enjoy! Perfect for a quick lunch.
Candied Lemon Breads = endless possibilities!
While a traditional sandwich or grilled cheese (try our vegan and super nutritious version!) are always a good stopgap, bread offers so many possibilities that it would be crazy to go without it! We have suggested 10 in this article, but the variations and options are almost endless.
